The Highwaymen, also known as Florida Highwaymen, were a group of 26 talented black artists that emerged as prolific painters in spite of segregation in the south in the late Jim Crow era. The Highwaymen recaptured attention in the 1990’s as more people recognized the significance of both regional art and the contributions of African American artists.
