Le Mans 1969
The travel-stained GT 40 driven by Ickx and Oliver leads the Herrmann/Larrousse Porsche 908 through Maison Blanche to record the fourth consecutive Lemans victory for Ford. During the final hours the lead changed frequently, with the JW Automotive car ultimately victorious over the challenger from Stuttgart. The winning car, chassis 1075, which had also taken the honors the previous year, covered 327 laps totaling 3,005 miles at an average speed of 125.44 mph to record the closest racing finish in Lemans history. Lemans, June 14-15 1969.
